Drywalling in Ayr
Drywall in Ayr and the surrounding North Dumfries countryside, a short drive southwest of Galt.
Ayr has an old village core of the same vintage as Galt's — brick and stone on plaster — and a ring of subdivisions built over the last twenty years, so the work covers the whole range: plaster assessed and repaired, overlaid or replaced with the trim saved; bare new basements boarded with the bulkheads planned and the framing's first-year movement allowed for; stipple ceilings from the in-between decades taken down after a lab test. Rural properties around the village add outbuildings, farmhouse additions and the occasional barn loft, and the long drive is not a surcharge. The administrative difference matters: Ayr is in the Township of North Dumfries, which runs its own building permits and zoning, so the City of Cambridge pages quoted elsewhere on this site do not apply here and the Township's building department is consulted before a wall is moved or a unit is planned. The Building Code and the Region's drywall disposal rules are the same on both sides of the line.

Frequently asked questions
Is the price different in Galt than in the newer parts of Cambridge?
Not because of the address. The old houses carry more unknowns — plaster, out-of-plane framing, trim to save, a test first — and the new basements carry bulkheads and drops. The quotes differ for reasons that would be true anywhere, and both get the same site visit.
Do you work on heritage-designated houses?
Yes. Drywall is interior and heritage controls mainly concern the street-facing exterior, but a designated house or one inside a district should check with the City's heritage staff before window reveals or casings are altered. Our approach — keep the trim, put it back — is the same either way.
Do the rules change in Ayr or North Dumfries?
The Building Code is provincial, but North Dumfries Township runs its own permits and zoning and is not covered by Cambridge's pages. A property there is checked against the township's rules before anything is quoted.
